Using the Symbian S60 3rd built-in Dictionary

by Mobile Jorge on August 24, 2009

Your Symbian S60 3rd device, like the Nokia E71 and Nokia 6220c has by default an English dictionary on board. The dictionary is located in the folder: Menu – Office – Dictionary

Native English speakers benefit from the dictionary by looking up the meaning of a word. Non-native English speakers benefit even more from it after downloading and installing their own Language Package. Then not only the meaning of the word is displayed by also the translation of the word to their language.

The downloading of the Language Pack is done by choosing Options – Language – Download languages.

The browser will then be opened to the Nokia site titled ‘Downloads for Mobile Dictionary in English’:
http://europe.nokia.com/get-support-and-software/download
The site is not adjusted for mobile use, so one has to scroll left and down to reach the Language Pack area.

There the language of choice can be picked by clicking on Download. After accepting the terms, the Language Pack is downloaded and installation can start. As always, the installation can be choosen (phone memory or memory card).

After installation, the source and target language for translation can be set up. In the following example, English to Dutch:

Translation can start:

P.S. Don’t forget to close the browser after installing the Language Pack.

Sorry Alexander, I don't know your query :( keep in mind that Nokia-Tips is a site providing all the aforementioned and this forum is meant for exactly that but there are questions that simply go outside my scope of knowledge, its a living blog and it evolves, my suggestion is twitter and then we can go from there :)
