This is how I listen to BBC Radio 2. You can try to apply the same technique for other Real media content.
1) In web, go to :
http://iplayerhelp.external.bbc.co.uk/help/finding_programmes/real_wma_streams
2) click on ‘BBC Radio 2 – Real’
this will launch RealPlayer and the first dialog it’ll show is ‘Connecting….’, then it’ll show ‘Loading…’.
3) While it’s still showing ‘Loading…’ progress, press the swirly key, or some other method of putting RealPlayer in the background.
You can then continue doing something else. RealPlayer will continue loading in the background, and when it’s finished will play the audio, irrespective of what you happen to be doing at the time.

Of course, if you use the same connection RealPlayer is using, or somehow tax the CPU heavily, then expect it to not play smoothly, but it is rare for it to actually stop playing (ie it does happen).
Been using this technique for a long time on my E90 and E71.
As a convenience, I tend to ‘tools/save page’ the list of radio stations so that it appears in the ‘Saved pages’ folder in Web’s bookmarks – I move that folder to the top of the list of bookmarks so it’s even easier to get to.
I also save the link in Gallery’s ‘Streaming links’ section, and have ‘gallery’ launch from the home screen so that is even quicker.
Special thanks to Max Waterman for submitting this great tweak/tutorial
