How To Change Fonts On Your Nokia & Symbian Phone

by Mobile Jorge on August 12, 2009

Ever wanted to change the fonts on your s60v3 or s60v5 smartphone, well its not difficult at all, its quite easy and I’ll show you how.

Did you know Nokia has sold more than 500,000 N97’s already

One thing that Symbian desperately needs is the ability for users to easily manage fonts. I’ve recently reviewed(SymbianGuru) a few Samsung feature phones and all three had the option to choose from 3 different fonts already installed in the phone. Since Symbian is a smartphone operating system, it surely can’t be that difficult to add this feature, can it? The good news is that no, it’s not.

To manage the fonts that your phone uses, you’ll need two applications. The first, FontRouter LT, will need to be signed. You can either use OpenSigned to do this, or use our walkthrough of how to sign unsigned apps for your Symbian-powered smartphone. The second app, FontRouterMan, is already signed, and provides an interface to the changes that FontRouter LT makes to your system. Once you have installed both applications to the internal memory on your phone, you can then install fonts easily. I have tested both applications on the Nokia N79, E63, and 5800 XpressMusic, so you shouldn’t have any trouble installing and using them on your phone.

  • Hi,man, you can download the Chinese fonts, they all include the English Fonts,if you don't like the English init, you can use the software that call Font Creator Program to change the English fonts.

    The Chinese fonts download: http://www.dos60.com/forum-16-1.html
  • I cannot download the FontrouterMan......

I'm curious is this can be used to avoid the dreaded squares (like []) that appear on my UK E90 when I visit China and receive SMS messages containing Chinese, or visit web sites like www.sina.com.
If changing the font will do it, care to guess what font might work (simplified Chinese)?
